crazy mexicans are shooting!

Gunfight in Oaxaca sends tourists running for cover

Leftist protesters have been sitting outside of Oaxaca's Camino Real hotel for months now. They are angry about the Oaxaco State election in 2004. These people believe that Ulises Ruiz fixed the election, they are demanding that he steps down. The past few months have finally peaked in violence. Not to worry, the protesters were keeping busy before this point. They enjoyed setting buses and other objects on fire and having smaller battles with police. A group of 40 men, or so, decided that it would be a smart idea to open fire on the protesters. for obvious reasons, the protesters returned the favor. Pretty much, people went crazy. Tourists and other innocent bystanders were also hurt and booking it for safety. It is believed that Ruiz is behind the attack. However, this theory has yet to be proved. Fox refuses to get involved. Hours before this all peaked the U.S. embassy encouraged it's citizens to not travel there, considering all of the violence. Aside from all of this, the robbery and assault crime rates have sky rocketed. The city is not a safe place to be right now. If you recall the teacher strike, in May, for higher wages, then you would be delighted to know that they have taken over government and broadcasting buildings and are getting the word out. Ruiz's men are threatening that the teachers will lose their jobs completely if they do not shut up. However, the teachers are not alone. Angry students and anarchists have joined them. Everything is so chaotic and out of control. The government should really get involved. Of course, for these people, the option of illegal immigration shouldn't be ruled out.

MEXICANOOOO, PLAYA!

LEFTISTS END MEXICO CITY STREET PROTESTS

So, in Mexico... Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's supporters gave up on their seven week protest in the middle of Mexico city and said they would find other ways to resist the oncoming conservative president, Vicente Fox. Vicente had moved the annual independence celebration 170 miles away from Mexico city to Dolores Hidalgo the day before.

They say that they had reached some sort of agreement saying that Vicente would move the independence ceremony if the protesters would chill out. The protests had caused the city the loss of 3000 jobs and 67 small businesses were forced to close.

-I can't believe that the protesters completely disregarded the harm that they were doing to their own people by protesting this president that will not be going away. I understand that they are mad that the leftist president narrowly lost in the July 2nd election. However, proper democracy should see easier transfers of power. I would have thought otherwise of mexico since they have had a democracy for some time now. whatchu know bout dat?
