LEFTISTS END MEXICO CITY STREET PROTESTS
So, in Mexico... Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's supporters gave up on their seven week protest in the middle of Mexico city and said they would find other ways to resist the oncoming conservative president, Vicente Fox. Vicente had moved the annual independence celebration 170 miles away from Mexico city to Dolores Hidalgo the day before.
They say that they had reached some sort of agreement saying that Vicente would move the independence ceremony if the protesters would chill out. The protests had caused the city the loss of 3000 jobs and 67 small businesses were forced to close.
-I can't believe that the protesters completely disregarded the harm that they were doing to their own people by protesting this president that will not be going away. I understand that they are mad that the leftist president narrowly lost in the July 2nd election. However, proper democracy should see easier transfers of power. I would have thought otherwise of mexico since they have had a democracy for some time now. whatchu know bout dat?

Wow. 3000 jobs? Were these there own jobs or the jobs of other people? Why'd the businesses close? Is it cause the streets were blocked up?
This protest is lame.
jess, apparently the streets were completely blocked up so im assuming it was the protesters' AS WELL AS the jobs of people who couldnt get to their job.
